Not saying MS was all innocent on handling Rare, but a lot of the big overhaul that happened at the studio was the studio's own new leadership trying to turn the company from a disorganized dysfunctional mess into an actual modern day AAA studio. The decision to go all in on Kinect came from within Rare, and the layoffs were both from within Rare and from new Microsoft leadership. To sum things up, one of the most passionate rising stars in the gaming industry has been snuffed out and Crash and Spyro's futures seem to be in jeopardy.įuck Activision for this. Right now Beenox seemingly remains the last bastion for these two series, but who's to say we won't be gathered here again in a few months talking about how Beenox has been relegated to an Overwatch support studio? From where I'm sitting, it sounds like Activision has just up and thrown out a Crash multiplayer game and a Spyro sequel out alongside Toys For Bob and now we are down two developers for these franchises. While nothing is as heartbreaking as Toys For Bob having its heart and soul ripped out to feed the COD money cow, the cherry on top of this is wondering where the hell Crash and Spyro can go next, if anywhere. Toys For Bob was a colorful spark of magic in grey, rigid industry and now they've just been sucked up and assimilated into the machine.

The company felt like the true modern successor to 90s Naughty Dog and Insomniac for how amazingly well-crafted their games were. Toys For Bob has easily become one of my favorite modern game studios ever for just how much sheer passion and skill they put into their games. Toys For Bob is a COD support studio now, and on top of that, it seems a lot of the big talent who worked on Spyro Reignited and Crash 4 have left the company voluntarily or not.
